The Hurtwood Charity
Registered Charity No. 200053
Hurtwood Control is run as a charity, and involves many volunteers who give their time over to maintaining the wood and heathland - and all the administration that goes with it. It costs around £60,000 a year to keep the Hurtwood looking like it does.
Did you know, for instance, that Heathland is man made? Albeit with it's origins in the Stone Age - so the facts may be a little sketchy. In order to keep these globally rare areas of land, the heath requires constant attention and protection against encroaching woodland and bracken.
Hurtwood Control employs one full time Ranger to oversee the land management, with the responsibility as a fire warden and manager of local contractors who work part time, assisting in the upkeep of this beautiful area.
Become a Friend
- Do you love walking?
- Are you a nature lover?
- Do you enjoy horse riding?
- Do you appreciate great mountain biking?
- Are you a keen environmentalist?
- And last, but not least, do you do any of these things on the Hurtwood?
If the answer is YES. Then we invite you to Become a Friend.
The Committee is most grateful for the support being received. Subscriptions to Hurtwood Control can be made by Gift Aid donation. As a registered charity we are able, if you pay tax at a minimum of the basic rate or higher, to recover tax from the Inland Revenue, which increases the value of the gift by nearly one third. Gift Aid donations can be made by any one of 4 ways.
The simplest is to set up an annual Direct Debit - securely, online. By visiting the Charity Aids Foundation website, you will ensure the future of this much-prized local woodland. Think of it as a communal garden. It just requires a small piece of attention from enough people - and the future right to roam for everyone will be secure.
